Boston, MA – (October 13,
2017) – On Thursday evening, Celtics’ Marcus Smart was named the recipient
of the New England Baptist Hospital
Community Champions Award at the Boston Celtics’ Shamrock Foundation Annual
Tip-Off Gala.
Marcus was recognized for his work with his
YounGameChanger Foundation which has the mission to provide families with seriously and chronically
ill children with encouragement and life-changing experiences and to be a voice
of motivation, empowerment and encouragement to inner city young athletes to be
game changers off the court or field.
In the past year,
Marcus, through the YounGameChanger Foundation, has unveiled two Smart Centers
at Boston-area pediatric hospitals. These Smart Centers are portable carts that move between inpatient units and outpatient
clinics. The Smart Centers are filled with electronics to provide patients and
their families access to technology and other resources as a means for
relaxation, communication and therapy during their hospital stays.
Along with helping seriously and chronically ill children, Marcus takes
the time to go to speak to inner children youth. He serves as a role model for
these students by speaking to them on his life experiences and how they can be
game changers.
To help raise money for Foundation programming, Smart will be hosting An Evening with Marcus Smart on November
9 at The Bleacher Bar. The intimate night with Marcus will include cocktails,
dinner by the bite, and exciting auctions. Tickets are $200 and available at
marcussmart.org.
